Ingredients

  • pre rolled puff pastry
    2 sheet
  • nutella
    3 tbsp
  • crushed hazelnuts
    40 g

To cook:

  • egg
    1 piece

Method

    1. Unroll one of the sheets of pastry and cut into the shape of a Christmas tree (triangle with a wide base). Spread the Nutella all over the Christmas tree shape and set the pastry offcuts to one side
    2. Sprinkle over the crushed hazelnuts and then lay the second sheet of puff pastry over the top. Press down around the shape of the Christmas tree underneath and then cut the pastry back to its Christmas tree shape.
    3. Using the trunk as a guide, cut branches around 1 inch apart leaving the centre intact. Repeat on both sides.
    4. Now take each branch and twist it, try to get at 2 turns on each.

Ready to freeze

  1. You can place your uncooked tree on a baking tray, cover with cling film and freeze until you need it.

Ready to cook

  1. Preheat the oven to 180oc/350oF/gas mark 4. Place the frozen tree on its baking tray, brush all over with the beaten egg and place in the oven and cook for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.

Leave to cool for a few minutes if you can resist digging in and then get tearing!

  1. Thanks for the lovely recipe ! I only had one packet of pre rolled pastry so split in half and the twists worked great! I didn’t have chocolate spread so melted some chocolate orange segments in the microwave and spread that on the pastry went down a treat !
