Ingredients

  • frozen diced onions
    1 cup (115 g)
  • Minced beef
    500 g
  • Grated carrots
    1 cup (70 g)
  • sliced mushroom
    1 cup (70 g)
  • Chopped tomatoes
    1 can (400 g)
  • Passata
    1 carton (500 g)
  • Chilli powder
    3 tsp
  • Oregano
    1 tsp
  • Kidney beans
    1 can (400 g)

Method

  1. Add the onions to a large pan and fry gently until softened.

  2. Add the beef, mushrooms, and carrots.

  3. Cook until all beef is browned.

  4. Drain any excess fat out of pan into a separate dish.

  5. Add the chopped tomatoes, passata, oregano and chilli powder.

  6. Drain the kidney beans and add beans to the pan.

  7. Mix everything together and leave to cool.

  8. Ready for the Freezer

Next is to portion it into labelled sealable freezer bags.

1 cup = 1 adult portion of chilli.

Ensure chilli is cooled before sealing and flattening.

  9. Ready to Eat

Simply defrost in the microwave or a pan until piping hot. I serve this with rice and sour cream on top.

It’s also great served in smaller portions on top of baked potatoes.

  1. I really liked this recipe, I did see on one of your posts that you used lintels in this – my kids are not bean lovers / can you advise how you added the lintels and how much / was thinking I could use half and half
